Mikkelin auto- ja konealan ammattiosasto ry sets its direction in the general meeting and pursues it through a written annual action plan. The statements below are the foundation of that plan.

Our mission
The mission of Mikkelin auto- ja konealan ammattiosasto ry is to protect and advance the working, professional and social interests of employees in the automotive and machinery sectors in Finland. We pursue this mission in three inseparable ways.
We protect workers' rights. The association informs its members of their rights and obligations under Finnish employment legislation, applicable collective agreements and occupational safety regulation. We support members facing disputes over pay, working time, contract terms, dismissal, discrimination or unsafe conditions, and we intervene where an individual would otherwise stand alone against an employer. We work to ensure that agreements made are agreements honoured.
We enhance vocational skill. The automotive and machinery trades are being reshaped by electrification, software-defined vehicles, advanced driver assistance systems, new materials and increasingly complex machinery. The association organises and brokers training so that this change becomes an opportunity for our members rather than a threat to their livelihoods. Competence is not only a professional asset; it is the most durable form of job security a worker can hold.
We provide community support. Working life includes injury, illness, redundancy, family pressure and the isolation that can follow any of them. The association maintains a network of colleagues, representatives and advisers who respond in practical terms — with guidance, with company, with referral to the right authority, and with the assurance that a member is not alone.

Strategic goals
Broaden the practical help available to members: faster access to legal guidance, a clearer advisory route for workplace safety questions, structured support during illness, redundancy or industrial injury, and dedicated onboarding for apprentices and newly qualified technicians.
Build durable cooperation with vocational institutions, adult education providers, equipment manufacturers and employers so that members can obtain recognised qualifications in electrified powertrains, advanced diagnostics, hydraulics, welding and heavy machinery maintenance without bearing the full cost or arranging it alone.
Make occupational safety a measurable, documented practice in every workplace where our members work: regular safety walkthroughs, correct use of lifting and diagnostic equipment, proper handling of chemicals and high-voltage systems, and a culture in which raising a concern is treated as professionalism rather than complaint.
Increase the number of trained workplace representatives, improve the quality of the association's participation in negotiations and consultations, and ensure that the practical experience of automotive and machinery workers reaches the bodies where decisions about the sector are made.

How progress is measured
Each strategic goal is translated into concrete measures in the annual action plan adopted by the general meeting, and each measure is reported on in the annual report of the following year. The board reviews progress at its regular meetings and records the review in the minutes. Members who wish to question, propose or amend any part of the strategy may do so at the general meeting, or in writing to the association at info@mikkeliautokone.blog.
